DDS Swimming Pool Repair in Gambia

We have a lot of experience in the repair of swimming pools, dip pools &  hot tubs in The Gambia. There have been many pools built by people who do not understand the construction process and have used cheap materials or cut corners to maximise profits.

You can see some of the swimming pool repair work we have dealt with in Gambia. See the following sections for all the details and photos

In Summary the main repair errors are:-

  • Weak sand/cement mix

By reducing the ratio of sand to cement it is possible to save a lot of money on expensive cement

  • Contaminated mixes

Most of the work is performed manually in The Gambia.

This means that the cement is not always mixed correctly and weakens the whole build. It is also common to contaminate the mix with soil or grass from the floor where the cement is mixed

  • Bad brick work and general construction

Some pools we have seen have been built as four individual walls with little or no cross over of blocks in the corners.

  • Lack of strengthening rods in large pools

All pool walls need to be strong as the water pressure can be extremely high. The larger the pool the higher the pressure. Some pools we have seen have not had any steel re-enforcement included

  • Kitchen tiles used

Standard white wall tiles for kitchens are cheaper than proper tile pools, see the result in example 5

  • Plumbing not fitted correctly

All plumbing fitments should be water tight and tiled over, if fitted wrongly they will leak

  • Wrong materials used

We have seen the wrong sized pipes and wrong fittings used on some installations. This has caused leaks and water loss months after the pool has been handed over.

  • Mastic not glue used on joints

In examplel 7 the leak was partly due to mastic being used instead of proper pipe glue

  • Sharp edges on steps and stairs

Sharp edges are produced in square corners or on stairs where tile edges meet. These can often cause cuts to hands and feet.

  • Large steps & entry points

Some pools have the steps put in as a secondary thought. These are often so large or steep that it is almost impossible to get in and out of the water.

Most of these common problems can be repaired quickly, DDS offer a free consultation and our glass fibre finish is guaranteed not to leak.

In some cases the construction is so poor it is actually cheaper and quicker to rebuild the swimminng pool. This applies to pools that have been left empty for a number of years and a mixture of all the problems listed above.
